D.O.A
Smash The State (DVD)
3.5/5
Who It’s For: D.O.A fans
Sounds Like: Good old punk rock
After thirty years, over three thousand shows, tons of albums, and a lot of beer, the Vancouver punk band, D.O.A., has finally released their new DVD, Smash The State. Brought to you by Sudden Death Records and MYD, the 68 minutes of Smash The State are packed with raw footage of the band between 1978 to 1981. The footage is comprised of 21 live songs from various San Francisco venues, as well as a TV Shoot from 1980. The DVD features band members Joey Shithead, Chuck Biscuits, Randy Rampage and Dave Gregg and has guest appearances from Keith Morris, and Dirk Dirksen among others.
In the thirty years that have passed the band has lost little of their youthful energy. The DVD enables you to see the band fly through songs such as “New Age,” “Fucked Up Baby,” and just about any other song you can think of. The DVD also contains fairly entertaining footage from the Anarchist Anti-Canada Day Picnic Show in 1978 at Stanley Park. The DVD could have done with more extras and more footage of the band hanging out or talking but as far as live footage goes, you can’t go wrong.
