The Great Awake
4/5

Who It’s For:
Fans of the Ceremonial Snips, Suicide Machines, Big D and the Kids Table
Sounds Like: Punk

The Great Awake is just the sort of improvement you would expect from Newmarket band the Flatliners. After four years as a band they have since been signed to Fat Wreck Chords and it's no wonder the band caught their eye. The Great Awake is made of twelve fast paced punk and reggae style songs that are just made for the stage. It's a little calmer than their last release, Destroy to Create, and puts less emphasis on ska elements but still packs a similar punch.

“The World Files For Chapter 11” is a great track featuring Creswell's attractive and classic quick biting vocals while “Eulogy” is a little slower but still energetic and has also been receiving radio play. Other tracks incorporate more reggae vibes such as “This Respirator” while others take to the more punk side of things such as “Mother Teresa Chokeslams The World.” The addition of horns in the closing track is also a welcome touch. The album is full of great songs that are sure to get your mojo going and often call for gang vocals with lyrics about such things as loss, giving up, realization and society. Definitely one to check out if the genre is up your alley.
