Guards Of Metropolis
Alligator
3/5
Who It’s For: Any rock fans.
Sounds Like: A little bit of all rock styles
Guards Of Metropolis define your average rock band starting out anywhere in the world. They have some good songs and can play instruments, but as of yet they have nothing to separate them from any other girl-fronted rock band. With 13 songs, Alligator feels very long: not a good sign for any album. They test out a variety of musical styles from straight forward rock to ballads to pop to electro-dance rock. Sometimes that makes discs great, but here I feel like Guards Of Metropolis just don’t know who they are yet, making for a confusing listen. They have talent and Kristin Blix has a flexible voice. They really shine when they have a dance vibe like on the boyfriend scorcher “Exhole” and a more 90’s era Garbage feel as on “Fadeaway.” I wouldn’t tell you to skip it altogether but don’t have hopes too high.
