Mod Club

According to Spin magazine and The New York Times, Montreal, eerily reminiscent of Seattle in the early nineties, is quickly becoming the hottest locale on the rock scene. With bands such as Sam Roberts, Mobile and Arcade Fire it’s not hard to see why the press is hungrily pressing their ears towards Montreal, but the real question remains: if the world is falling in love with Montreal rock, who are the Montreal natives falling in love with?

That’s easy; Jonas, and after hearing him play live at The Mod Club, I can understand why.

With a voice that is as melodic as it is powerful, Jonas mesmerized the audience with his rock sound and powerful chords and quickly surrendered the crowd into a dancing frenzy.

During his time on stage – which was a meagre 40 minutes – Jonas galvanized the crowd to such a high, that even a sixty year old couple got into the action and started jumping up and down, mesmerized by his performance.

Though his discs accurately portray Jonas’ strength and music writing abilities, nothing compares with the sound and power he delineates during a live performance.

There is a reason that Jonas has headlined a gig at The Bell Centre in Québec and opened for major bands such as Van Halen and earned himself a Juno nod; it’s because he is that good and the people of Montreal know it.

If given the opportunity to see him live in a small venue take it, because it won’t be long before you are paying $60 to watch him through binoculars at the 300 level in your local arena. Until then though… long live rock et roulez!
