Mayday Parade
A lesson in Romantics
3.5/5
Who It’s For: People that like good vocals in their rock.
Sounds Like: A lot of the American rock music out there, with better vocals.
Mayday Parade’s A Lesson In Romantics is definitely an album that takes more than one listen to truly get.
The vocals, which are contributed by both Derek Sanders and bassist Jeremy Lenzo while backed by drummer Jake Brundige, show some good range and are a pleasant surprise. This is especially apparent on a slower track like “Miserable at Best.”
Musically, these boys from Tallahassee are not too much better than your average band right now. They have all the right proverbial moves, but it sounds like it’s all been done before because, well, it has.
It’s sure to say that Mayday Parade deserves a listen, but you need more to appreciate what they’re doing and that detracts from the album a bit too much.
