Sounds Like: The result of an indie band being heavily produced

Jenny Lewis has become the Gwen Stefani of the indie rock world and for good reason too; she’s the girl next door everyone thinks they can get with once she lowers her standards after a few beers.
Now coming off her successful solo stint, Lewis returns to her boys in Rilo Kiley for another folky good time – oh wait, not this time. Here the band adopts a new sound, which can hardly be compared to their Saddle Creek days. No complaints on this end though, the sound works for them.
The album experiments with Spanish, disco and contemporary sounds, making it accessible to a larger fan base. It also sounds like Lewis has had some vocal lessons as her voice is at her strongest resulting in extremely hard hitting songs.

It seems being on a major label has changed their sound, but not their heart. Now the band can make you think, dance, cry, and of course, smile.
