Spoon
Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
5/5
Who It’s For: People who like their indie rock strewn with a little abstraction.
Sounds Like: Feel-good music.
Spoon's latest effort Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is quickly becoming the Texas band's most talked about release, as well as their highest chart topper to date. Although somewhat similar to 2005's Gimme Fiction, Ga Ga shows a maturation of the Austin boys as they move to a more affluenced pallet of genres- dabbling in folk, country, punk, and even some surf rock.
The country influence seems primarily apparent in the track "Rhthm and Soul", with Britt Daniel's warm,
Square couches/short legs and/square shoulders sounding like something Dylan could have wrote (and performed, at that) in his prime. But the influences don't stop there “My Japanese Cigarette Case” sounds straight off the shelves of Robert Pollard, and Television glows through the choppy guitars of “Eddie's Ragga.” And Britt Daniel, with his adorably raspy swoon, makes the chorus of “Don't You Evah” sound so incredibly his that you'd be shocked to hear it's a cover.
All in all, Ga Ga is definitely one of Spoon's finest. It's experimental, it's accessible, and it's one of those albums that just make you feel good. From start to finish, Spoon has proved that they are one of the leaders of indie rock, further building on their unique sound with every album.
