Looks like the Warriors made it back to Coney Island after all! They had a rough time facing off against The Lizzies and The Baseball Furies, Ajax being arrested, and Fox being killed but….
You’ve seen the movie haven’t you? No? Go rent it.
Have you at least heard the band named after the cult classic movie and novel? If not, you need to buy A Genuine Sense Of Outrage, the new album from the Southern California hardcore anomaly known as The Warriors. With their victory debut, The Warriors are back to the form of their first full length, War Is Hell, but have spiced things up just a touch.
Band vocalist Marshall Lichtenwaldt screams, We’ve come into our own! on “Silence Is Bliss” and he couldn’t be any more right! A Genuine Sense Of Outrage is audio adrenaline from top to bottom. The Warriors flawlessly take their influences and spin them into a sound all their own. Lichtenwaldt has taken a slightly more guttural tone on this album, but his nasal shriek that got you hooked before still shows up. Band guitarist Javier Zarate’s guitar work is groovier than ever, as his bluesy riffs seem to be outside the box of the rest of the music, but still fits in some amazingly strange way. Hooks on top of beat downs on top of more hooks- you just wont be able to get enough. Album highlights include the rock ‘n roller “The Price Of Punishment” with Lemmy of Motorhead, “Mankind Screams” With Lou of the legendary hardcore outfit Sick Of It All, and the song that will have you believe that Rage Against The Machine is alive and well, album single “Destroying Cenodoxus,” programmed drums and all.
The new Warriors album, A Genuine Sense Of Outrage, should leave you with a genuine sense of satisfaction, as a hardcore album this complete and diverse hasn’t been presented this well in a long time. Could this be the spark that re-ignites Victory Records’ catalogue? Let’s hope so as The Warriors are truly worthy of such an honour.
