Alexisonfire – Old Crows/Young Cardinals At first listen, it might sound like they have gone soft, but AOF are just serious now. They are a real band that works together and every member has their voice and sounds amazing throughout this album. Brand New – Daisy Despite what one Tangible Sounds reviewer thinks, Daisy shows more of the raw real side of Brand New than I think most of their stuff does. Jesse Lacey has had something to scream about for years and he is finally doing it. God it feels good. Frank Turner – Poetry Of The Deed Acoustic rock never sounded so real and so sweet. That’s all that needs to be said. Green Day – 21st Century Breakdown Ok, so it’s not as epic as American Idiot, but the songs on 21st Century Breakdown can stand on their own feet much better and Billie Joe proves he will go down in history as our genre’s great musician. Marianas Trench – Masterpiece Theatre This is probably the only pop rock thing worth listening to in the whole genre right now. They are head and shoulders above their entire genre and other bands should look up to them even if they haven’t heard of them yet. One Republic – Waking Up I would have never ever saw this coming, but Ryan Tedder has written great songs for other people so it was only a matter of time before his own band had a great album. With that Timbaland beat feel running through the album Waking Up gives adult contemporary a needed shock to the heart. Westbound Train – Come And Get It It’s something in the vocals that makes this album great. It’s something in the way the whole band has put a positive spin on some of the saddest songs around. The Artist Life – Let’s Start A Campfire EP I already liked them, but I honestly didn’t know this acoustic album was in them. I didn’t know they could make me feel these songs on a whole new level. The Academy Is... – Lost In Pacific Time EP Welcome back guys! I missed you. Let’s not screw it up on the full length. This Providence – Where Are You Now? This is the kind of emo that I won’t be ashamed of listening to years from now. Honourable Mentions: 1. A Fine Frenzy – Bomb In A Birdcage Almost made the list for my girly side. 2. 30 Seconds To Mars – This Is War Maybe when I’ve had more time with it I can decide, but Jared Leto sounds awesome. 3. Classified – Self Explanatory Just so much fun, but too long to actually make the list. 4. Mute Math – Armistice One of my favourites of the year, but not original enough to be the best. 5. The Almost – Monster Monster Probably doesn’t deserve to be here, but it’s so much better than Underoath that I want them to know they shouldn’t give up this side project.
